Robert Logan, the actor best known for his role in the ABC detective show “77 Sunset Strip,” has died. He was 82.
Logan passed away of natural causes on May 6 in Estero, Florida.
His family waited until Wednesday to share the news of his death.
“He was the embodiment of agape, literally the Platonic ideal of spousal or familiar love,” Logan’s family said in a statement to PEOPLE.
They said they “felt so lucky, so blessed, to experience that; so lucky and so blessed to know him.”
Logan died just three weeks shy of his 83rd birthday.
The late star was born in Brooklyn on May 29, 1941.
Logan’s family, which included his seven siblings, moved to Los Angeles. He got a scholarship to play baseball at the University of Arizona, Tucson, where he was scouted by a Warner Bros. talent agent, according to his obituary.
His first acting role was in “77 Sunset Strip.”
Logan played parking attendant J.R. Hale, who replaced Edward Byrnes’ Kooki as the valet parking attendant. He was on the show for two seasons from 1961 to 1963.
The series also starred Efrem Zimbalist Jr., Roger Smith and Richard Long. It ran on ABC for over 200 episodes from 1958 to 1964.
Logan also had a recurring role in the NBC action-adventure series “Daniel Boone” as Jericho Jones.
His most notable film role was in the “Wilderness Family” movies as Skip Robinson, a construction worker who moves from LA to a cabin in the Rocky Mountains with his wife and two kids.
Logan appeared in the original 1975 film, “The Adventures of the Wilderness Family,” as well as its two sequels: 1978’s “The Further Adventures of the Wilderness Family” and 1979’s “Mountain Family Robinson.”
He also starred in the movies “The Sea Gypsies,” “Across the Great Divide,” Kelly” and “A Night in Heaven.”
Logan’s final acting role was in the 1997 movie “Redboy 13.”
In 1985, Logan married his wife, Alina Milián, a Cuban-American Pan Am stewardess and fashion model.
He retired from acting after their son was born. The couple also had a daughter.
According to Logan’s obituary, Milián “tirelessly cared” for her husband “as he navigated and ultimately overcame several health scares.”
Logan is survived by his wife, his son and daughter, his three grandchildren and more relatives.
