Warner Music has restructured its senior ranks, giving a big promotion to Elliot Grainge, the son of the chief executive of Universal Music, Warner’s top rival.

As part of the shake-up Warner’s most senior record executive, Max Lousada, is stepping down.

Grainge has been elevated to chief executive of Warner’s Atlantic Records, a high-profile job that will see the 30-year-old compete against his father, Lucian Grainge, the most powerful person in the music business.

Warner Music is one of the world’s largest music companies, representing artists including Charli XCX, Dua Lipa and Ed Sheeran.

Last year, Warner acquired a majority stake in the younger Grainge’s start-up 10K Projects, where he cultivated the rapper Ice Spice.
