Armie Hammer has moved back to Los Angeles, but he has to sell his beloved truck because gas prices are just too damn high.
In a video posted to Instagram on Tuesday, August 27, the disgraced actor, 37, revealed he has gotten a new apartment in LA and taken the truck he has loved “intensely” on one final roadtrip — to Carmax.
“I’ve been back in LA for a couple of weeks now. This is my truck. I bought this for myself in 2017 as a Christmas gift for myself, because I’ve had pickup trucks for a long time, and I have loved this truck intensely,” he said of the black pickup, which he showed parked in a Carmax parking lot.
“This is not an ad for Carmax,” he clarified. “This is because I am selling my truck.”
“Since being back in LA, I have put about four or five hundred dollars worth of gas in it, and I can’t afford it. I can’t afford the gas anymore,” he said.
Hammer’s career plummeted off a cliff almost overnight after accusations of rape, physical abuse and cannibalistic fantasies were leveled against him in 2021. He has since spoken out, saying he’s “grateful” the scandal caused his “career death.”
The actor added that the truck has sentimental value for him as he’s “taken it camping and across country multiple times and on long road trips,” revealing he brought his kids home from the hospital in it after they were born.
“But ya know what? That’s okay,” he said. “That’s okay. I got a new car. It’s tiny. It’s a hybrid. I’m probably going to put about 10 bucks a gas in it a month and this is it.”
He added, “So I have to clean all of this stuff out you know all kinds of s–t. But that’s okay.”
As Hammer panned his camera around the inside of the truck to show all of his belongings that he needed to remove from the vehicle, one item that came into clear view was a large bundle of rope, eye-catching given his alleged love for engaging in BDSM and, in particular, shibari — Japanese rope bondage.
The “Death on the Nile” actor went on to say that his decision to sell his car was tied to his 38th birthday tomorrow, August 28, and the beginning of a new chapter in his life.
“I will be starting my birthday in a new car in a new apartment in a new life in Los Angeles,” he said in the video.
Hammer also shared that his kids are “not happy” about him selling the four-door pickup, given that they have so many memories from times spent in the truck.
But he’s trying to focus on two things: “Parking is gonna be easier, and gas is gonna be cheaper.”
Hammer has been open about his financial struggles after he faced allegations of sexual misconduct.
Back in 2021, photos emerged that appeared to show Hammer hard at work at a new job: selling timeshares in the Cayman Islands.
“I loved it,” the Hammer family scion said in a July interview on Bill Maher’s “Club Random” podcast. “It is so fun.”
Recounting seeing the photos of Hammer selling timeshares, Maher said he thought, “F–k, this guy has balls.” Hammer chimed in, “That’s the wrong vowel — it’s ‘bills.’ I have two kids.”
Hammer and his ex Elizabeth Chambers divorced in June 2023. The pair share children: Harper, 9, and Ford, 7.
According to their divorce settlement, Hammer agreed to pay Chambers $1,500 per month in child support. The amount was set because he “does not have the income” to pay more. The pair also agreed to waive spousal support.
