China’s new envoy to Australia comes at a time when “fresh eyes” and “fresh ears” are needed in the diplomatic relations between the two countries, according to GT Communications’ Gemma Tognini.
The Australian is reporting the Morrison government has agreed to the nomination of Xiao Qian as China’s new ambassador to Australia.
“I think the change in itself is a positive move,” Ms Tognini told Sky News host Jenna Clarke
“It’s been as everybody knows a really fraught period of time in our relations with China.
“I don’t necessarily think this is going to materially do much in terms of the root cause of that conflict.
“But again, this chap is coming in at a time where I think fresh eyes, fresh ears and certainly a fresh breeze is needed in that space.”
