Yankees manager Aaron Boone said he expected “a crazy 48 hours in the baseball world” leading up to Tuesday’s MLB trade deadline.
He appears to have been bang-on.
A flurry of Monday trades saw teams sell off the goods: Orioles slugger Trey Mancini went to the Astros, Reds outfielder Tommy Pham moved to the Red Sox, the Brewers dealt reliever Josh Hader to San Diego, and Boone’s squad acquire prized pitcher Frankie Montas from Oakland.
Of course, the big deadline day prize still looms: Nationals star Juan Soto is on the market after rejecting Washington’s 15-year, $440 million offer.
The 23-year-old can be a franchise centerpiece — he’s slashed .291/.426/.539 with 118 home runs in four-plus seasons — and has attracted attention from the likes of the Yankees, Mets, Padres, Dodgers and Cardinals.
Where will Soto end up — and what will Washington’s massive haul look like? We may just find out in the coming hours.
