Jean Segura might have a bone to pick with the Wrigley Field scoreboard operator.

The Phillies infielder, on first base after singling in the top of the second inning while down 1-0 to the Cubs on Thursday, found himself tagged out when the scoreboard showed the wrong count while teammate Nick Maton was at bat.

Javier Assad’s first three pitches to Maton went ball, foul tip, ball for a 2-1 count with two outs, but the scoreboard inexplicably added an extra ball to the total.

On the real fourth pitch of the at-bat, Maton flashed bunt, only to be spun around by an inside pitch that was called a ball — leading Segura, who thought it was a walk, to head for second.

Instead, he found himself tagged out for the third out of the inning. Segura gestured toward the scoreboard, but to no avail.

Jean Segura motioned to the scoreboard after his inning-ending out.

The Phillies, in the midst of a battle with the Milwaukee Brewers for the National League’s third and final wild-card spot, could use all the help they can get in the midst of a four-game losing streak. They didn’t get any from the scoreboard operator at Wrigley on Thursday.
