The Jets defense might need a reset.

All of the focus was on Jets quarterback Zach Wilson and his “reset” after three weeks on the bench, but it was the Jets defense that folded late in the fourth quarter in a 20-17 loss to the Lions at MetLife Stadium.

The Jets had taken a 17-13 lead with 4:41 left in the game after Wilson threw a 1-yard touchdown to tight end C.J. Uzomah.

The Jets just needed their defense to hold up to get the win, but they couldn’t. The Lions took over at their own 22 with 4:37 left to play. They drove to their 49 with two minutes left in the game. On fourth-and-1, Lions quarterback Jared Goff ran the play-action pass and found tight end Brock Wright wide open on the left side. Wright went up the sideline and scored the 51-yard touchdown to give the Lions a 20-17 lead with 1:49 left in the game.

The Jets got the ball back and Wilson threw a desperation pass to Elijah Moore on fourth-and-18 from their own 40 that went 20 yards to the Lions’ 40. Jets coach Robert Saleh called timeout with one second remaining. That gave Greg Zuerlein a chance at a 58-yard field goal, but it went wide left and the Jets lost.

The Jets fell to 7-7 and their playoff hopes are now teetering.
