At UFC 269 on Saturday, Priscila Cachoeira was caught twice by cameras gouging the eye of her opponent, Gillian Robertson. Joe Rogan, while announcing the fight, repeatedly called the move “so dirty”.

Robertson submitted Cachoeira at the end of the first round of their fight.

As Cachoeira was attempting to release herself from the hold, she gouged Robertson’s eye, not once, but twice.

Robertson shook off the eye gouges, and continued to apply the hold even stronger.

Watching the replay, Rogan, the popular Spotify podcaster who is also a color commentator for UFC, confirmed that the eye gouges indeed happened.

“She does!” Rogan exclaimed. “100 percent. That’s so dirty! That is so nasty.”

Cachoeira missed the 129 lb. weight limit before the fight.

The Brazilian fighter, who has lost four of her last six fights, denied that she intentionally gouged Robertson’s eyes, claiming that she was going for her opponent’s neck.

“It wasn’t my intention to [gouge] her eye when she was on my back, I didn’t know it was going in the direction of her eye,” Cachoeira told MMA Fighting. “My intention was to go for her neck and push it. That was my intention, but I was desperate, almost snoring, and it’s a matter of survival, right? I want to get it off. But it wasn’t my intention to hit her eyes. Never.

“I’m a professional and I’ve already apologized to her in person and via Instagram, and she was super cool. Critics will come, right? There’s no other way. I’ll wait for the dust to settle and work to come back stronger.”
