Pete Alonso didn’t get much of a chance.
Seattle’s Julio Rodriguez ended the Mets slugger’s quest for a third Home Run Derby title for a second year in a row, this time with a Herculean 41-dinger effort in the first round.
Alonso who came to the plate to boos from the crowd at Seattle’s T-Mobile Park, mustered just 21 homers in his three-minute session — and a 1:00 bonus — as the second seed in the tournament.
The first baseman was seen mouthing “Wow, wow,” after his effort came up 20 taters short.
Alonso, who won Derby titles in 2019 and 2021, had to change his pitcher late on Monday after his youth coach Mike Friedlein suffered a forearm malady.
Mets assistant Aaron Myers stepped in for Friedlein.
Still, there was no competing with Rodriguez’s record round, a 10-homer improvement on his 31-23 win over Alonso in 2022.
