Resources Minister Keith Pitt says if Europe experiences a shortfall in gas due to Russia limiting supply Australia will “look to fill it”.
More than 40 per cent of gas imports in Europe come from Russia and there are growing concerns Moscow could limit supply in response to tensions with Ukraine.
“In terms of Australia’s ability to deliver LNG, we are one of the most reliable suppliers in the world,” Mr Pitt told Sky News Australia.
“We will of course continue to meet our existing contracts but where there is a shortfall, Australia will always look to support our friends.”
