Russia’s Ambassador to Australia Alexey Pavlovsky has claimed the media has not been “nice” to Russia and called for “balanced reporting” regarding the tensions with Ukraine during a rare address.
It comes as more than 100,000 Russian troops are sitting on the Ukraine’s eastern border as military exercises in the region ramp up.
“I think the Australian public does need balanced reporting and it needs it badly,” Mr Pavlovsky said during a media address on Friday.
“Australians definitely are entitled to a more meaningful understanding of the situation than comic book style propaganda like Batman versus Joker – I mean, liberal democracies versus autocracies.”
However, Mr Pavlovsky said he believed the Australian media could contribute to a “more fair presentation of the situation”.
