We have another Monday slate of baseball on tap and plenty of projections to choose from in the PrizePicks lobby.
We went three-for-four in our picks last Monday and hit all four of the picks a few weeks ago, so let’s try to keep the momentum going this Monday evening.
I have my eye on two batters and two pitcher projections, so let’s dive right into them.
Matt Olson more than 1.5 total bases
It’s almost unfair how good the Braves are at baseball.
They have the most talented lineup in the majors and should find success again Monday at home against the Yankees.
Clarke Schmidt will be on the mound and, on the season, he has allowed a .373 wOBA and a 31% hard contact rate to left-handed hitters.
Meanwhile, Olson owns a .429 wOBA and a .362 ISO against right-handed pitching.
He has had more than 1.5 total bases in six of his last nine games.
Miles Mikolas less than 5.5 strikeouts
I generally like to pick on the A’s when it comes to pitcher projections, but I like Mikolas to have less than 5.5 strikeouts in his start Monday.
While Oakland’s offense leaves much to be desired, it looks a lot better after calling up its best hitting prospects.
This lineup still strikes out at a decent rate, but it also draws a decent number of walks.
Mikolas has a strikeout rate of only 17% on the season and has failed to record six strikeouts in eight of his last 10 starts.
Brady Singer more than 5.5 strikeouts
While it hasn’t been the best season for Singer, he seems to have hit his stride over the last couple of months.
He has pitched at least six innings in four of his last five starts and has 31 strikeouts during that stretch.
Some quick napkin math will tell you that he has averaged more than six strikeouts in that span and he had some difficult matchups mixed in.
His matchup Monday is against the Mariners, who have the third-highest strikeout rate against right-handed pitching this season.
If Singer can continue his recent form, he should have a good chance of striking out six or more batters.
Corbin Carroll more than 2.5 hits + runs + RBI
We have a game in Coors Field and we have a very hittable pitcher on the mound in Chris Flexen. He has a 7.04 xERA with a strikeout rate of 15% and a walk rate of 10%.
Those are nothing short of awful, and it’s not like the Rockies’ bullpen is that much better.
Flexen has allowed a .418 wOBA to left-handed hitters, while Carroll has racked up a .388 wOBA and a .297 ISO against right-handed pitching.
He’ll likely get five or six at-bats in the best hitter’s park in baseball, so I like his chances to get at least three hits, runs and RBIs combined.
