China has been promoting the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics as the greenest Games in history.
Many experts are disputing this claim, saying the cost to the natural environment is already enormous.
According to CNN, the new National Alpine Ski Centre has been built in what was a core area of the Songshan National Nature Reserve, originally created to protect China’s biodiversity.
University of Strasbourg’s Carmen De Jong has also raised concerns about water consumption, labelling the reliance on artificial snow for the Games “completely unsustainable”.
