HOUSTON — Hal Steinbrenner recently said that the Yankees would undergo “a very deep dive into everything we’re doing” this offseason.

Aaron Boone is all for it.

Steinbrenner told the Associated Press on Thursday that the Yankees were looking into bringing in an outside company to evaluate the club’s analytics wing and “baseball operations in general” as they enter the final weeks of a disastrous season.

On Sunday, Boone said it was something the organization has been wanting to do for a while.

“I think it’s something that they’re looking at everything,” Boone said Sunday before ending a 10-game road trip against the Astros at Minute Maid Park. “I think it’s something that we’ve, on some level, wanted to do for years. There’s just a lot that goes into that, going in and breaking down every department.

“Look, the more oversight you can have on everything you’re doing to try to — always trying to find that higher ground in everything we do I think is a great thing.”

The Yankees will have extra time for an autopsy this offseason as they inch closer to missing the playoffs for the first time since 2016.

Ian Hamilton landed on the 15-day injured list Sunday with a right groin strain — the same injury that cost the reliever six weeks earlier this season [in part because of an aggravation of it]. But the Yankees are hopeful this one is not as serious as the last, which is why they believe he can come back in time to pitch again this season.

In the meantime, the Yankees recalled Greg Weissert from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to take his spot in the bullpen.

Hamilton was warming up in the second inning Saturday night as Luis Severino’s pitch count rose, but he felt his groin “grab on him a little bit,” Boone said. He is set to undergo testing when the Yankees get back to New York.

“I think the early feeling right now is that he’ll be back [this season],” Boone said.

Boone said Anthony Rizzo has not experienced any setbacks in his rehab from post-concussion syndrome, but the team planned to meet with him when it got back to New York to determine what was next for him.

The veteran first baseman advanced to taking live batting practice last weekend in Tampa, but returned to New York midweek for a checkup.

“He’s doing baseball stuff at home,” Boone said. “We’ll sit down with him when we get back and have better updates.”

Gleyber Torres returned to the lineup Sunday after missing back-to-back games with lower back tightness.
