The Giants are in a race for the worst record in the NFL with the way their season has gone.
After Sunday’s ugly loss to the Dallas Cowboys, the Giants currently hold the second overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft and ESPN Analytics currently has them at a 38.4 percent chance of selecting No. 1 overall in the upcoming draft.
Big Blue got some help over the weekend with the return of Kyler Murray and a win for the Arizona Cardinals, who now join the Giants at 2-8.
The New England Patriots also hold a 2-8 record, while the Chicago Bears – who have the best odds for the first pick at 39.3 percent – are 3-7 this season.
The Bears are playing with a bit of an advantage when it comes to who will get the No. 1 pick next year.
The Bears not only own their own first-round pick in the upcoming draft but they also own the Carolina Panthers pick in 2024, which Chicago acquired as part of the deal that sent the 2023 first overall pick to Carolina.
Things have not panned out for the Panthers, who are currently the only one-win team in the NFL and could very well hand the Bears the No. 1 pick.
The Cardinals own a 12.0 percent chance at first pick, according to ESPN Analytics.
The Giants haven’t had a first overall pick since 1965 when they selected running back Tucker Frederickson out of Auburn.
The last top-three pick they had was in 2018 when they took Saquon Barkley second overall.
Big Blue has been one of the biggest disappointments this season after going to the playoffs last year and upsetting the Minnesota Vikings in the Wild Card round.
Injuries haven’t helped their case either with Daniel Jones done for the rest of the season with a torn ACL and even backup Tyrod Taylor is on injured reserve.
It has forced the Giants to turn to undrafted rookie Tommy DeVito to start.
The Giants have seven games left on the schedule, including a Week 11 matchup against the Washington Commanders followed by games against the Patriots and Green Bay Packers before a bye week.
They will finish out the year with games against the New Orleans Saints, Los Angeles Rams and two games against the Philadelphia Eagles.
