The beef between Robert Griffin III and Jay Gruden took another turn Thursday night when the former NFL quarterback put the former Washington football coach on blast for an incident that occurred while the pair were in the nation’s capital.

Griffin told a story on his podcast about Gruden and shared a clip of it on social media in which Gruden responded.

“There was a moment that happened in D.C. that is vividly remembered,” Griffin starts off saying in the clip. “Jay Gruden went to a press conference and he undressed me at that press conference in a way a coach should never undress his starting quarterback. It was after a game and I said in the press conference that ‘the best players in the NFL have the guys around them play at an extremely high level. No one is out there doing it on their own.’

“Now the media pundits and everyone took that and say RGIII threw his teammates under the bus. And I had to eat that for a long time because Jay didn’t back me in the media the next day. He doubled down on it and actually picked me apart in the media.”

That’s when Griffin said that there was more to the story and that Gruden had made him out to be the scapegoat.

“What people don’t know is that the only reason I went to that press conference and said what I said to challenge my teammates through that press conference, was because Jay Gruden asked me to do that,” Griffin said.

“What hurt me about that after I did that in the press conference, not only did Jay Gruden not have my back, but he actually burned me with it the next day. He actually came out the next day and burned me in the media. He came out the next day in our team meeting room and burned me in front of my teammates.”

The former QB then said that he stood up and apologized for what he had said during a team meeting, but it has always stuck with him what Gruden did.

“It’s the fact that he has zero self-awareness and zero integrity, because even though he asked me to do something he didn’t have the balls to have my back,” Griffin concluded.

Gruden, who has been very active on social media, replied to the clip after it was posted.

The former coach simply replied: “You really wanna play this game?”

He then posted to X “go race a pigeon” along with a clip of Griffin racing a bird.

Gruden and Griffin had already been going back and forth on social media earlier in the week and Gruden even went as far to take a shot at Griffin in a post on X that he reportedly deleted earlier in the day on Thursday.

“You weren’t good enough,” he allegedly wrote in the deleted post. “Kirk was better. Cleveland didn’t want you. Baltimore [didn’t] either. Quit blaming me.”

Griffin had played for Gruden in 2014 and was eventually benched for Kirk Cousins after he dislocated his ankle early in the season.
