And he then entered the offseason without saying a word.
Diggs, the Bills’ mercurial receiver, declined to talk to reporters after his big drop doomed Buffalo in their 27-24 loss to the Chiefs on Sunday, according to NFL Network.
The report also noted Diggs did not speak to the media last week after Buffalo’s wild-card win over Pittsburgh.
Diggs had just three catches for 21 yards in Sunday’s divisional-round loss, in what was another disappointing performance in a string of them from the 30-year-old.
And now the world waits to see how Diggs processes this latest postseason failure in Western New York.
Diggs, who famously stayed on the field to watch the Chiefs celebrate their AFC Championship win over the Bills in 2021, had a chance to help the Bills finally overcome their rivals on Sunday, but instead came up small in his biggest moment.
He let a bomb from quarterback Josh Allen that traveled more than 60 yards go right through his hands in the fourth quarter, with the Bills trailing by three and more than eight minutes remaining.
A catch would have set up the Bills around the Chiefs’ 25-yard line.
While it would have been a tough catch, it’s a play that Diggs, one of the league’s most talented and highest-paid receivers, needs to make.
The Bills still managed to get into scoring position on that drive but Tyler Bass missed a potential game-tying field goal that all but ended the game.
Had Diggs caught the pass, the Bills may not have had to settle for a kick.
With that drop and missed kick affecting the outcome, there will now be plenty of talk about Diggs this offseason as Buffalo attempts to find a way to get past Kansas City.
For all his talents, Diggs has seemed unhappy at times during his stints with the Vikings and Bills.
He forced his way out of Minnesota and voiced his displeasure on the sidelines last season during the Bills’ season-ending loss to the Bengals, which was also in the divisional round.
Diggs then no-showed at the start of camp over the summer, posting cryptic messages during his absence, before returning.
Diggs and Allen ultimately downplayed the incident, with the receiver saying it was “water under the bridge.”
But Diggs now enters this offseason having seemingly been de-emphasized in the Bills’ offense under new offensive coordinator Joe Brady.
Diggs tallied 73 catches for 868 yards (86.8 yards per game) and seven touchdowns in the first 10 games of the season under former offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey.
He tallied just 34 catches for 315 yards (45 yards per game) and one touchdown over the last seven games, and tallied just 10 catches for 73 yards and zero touchdowns in the Bills’ two playoff games.
Diggs obviously would have had more yards had he caught that ball, and former Steelers coach and CBS announcer Bill Cowher noted the Bills’ inability to stretch the field Sunday contributed to their loss.
“Buffalo had no big plays. Everything was a grind. No plays over 20 yards. There was no passing game that existed for the Buffalo Bills. It was all sideways. We saw three big dropped passes,” Cowher said, as transcribed by Larry Brown Sports. “They were one-dimensional. They were just a running football team, and they were on the back of Josh Allen, who was trying to do it all.”
Diggs is under contract with the Bills through the 2027 season, and some have wondered if he could be moved this offseason should issues arise.
However, with a dead cap hit of $31.1 million according to Spotrac.com, the Bills might find it hard to move Diggs should he want out.
