It wasn’t just the play at Augusta National that fueled internet chatter Thursday.

Australian golfer Jason Day became a viral sensation over his attire for the opening round of the 2024 Masters, namely his slacks that were likened to “parachute pants” on X.

“The Masters, a tradition unlike any other,’ Jason Day wearing MC Hammer pants,” one golf fan quipped on the social media platform.

Another user joked, “Hey Jason Day, @MCHammer called and wants his pants back…”

The jokes kept rolling about Day, whose Masters looks have been crafted by Malbon, “a lifestyle brand inspired by the game of golf,” for which he serves as an ambassador.

“I’m legitimately concerned that Jason Day might set sail with those pants in this wind,” Trey Wingo posted alongside a video of Day as his pants moved in the breeze.

He added in a separate post: “How many actual golfers could fit in Jason Day’s pants?”

Day continued to drive social media commentary Friday when he arrived for Day 2 of the Masters wearing a sweater vest featuring bold detailing.

“Is someone making Jason Day dress like this? I feel like he’s being pranked,” Barstool Sports’ Dan “Big Cat” Katz wrote on X.

Longtime CBS broadcaster Verne Lundquist, who is calling it a career at this year’s Masters, added Day “seems determined to make a fashion statement” between the vest and pants.

Day had a late start to the day Thursday as stormy weather in the Augusta, Ga., area pushed back tee times by more than two hours.

His group of Tiger Woods and Max Homa began later in the afternoon and have to complete the first round Friday morning before starting the second round.

Day is two-over through 17 holes.

The 2015 PGA Championship winner, Day had his best finish at the Masters in 2011 when he tied for second with fellow Australian Adam Scott.

Day wasn’t the only golfer who turned heads for his Masters attire Thursday.

Spain’s Sergio Garcia sported a green top and bright yellow pants, while wife Angela wore a matching look that featured a green tank top and a yellow skirt.
