For the second time in as many weeks, there’s a rare update on former F1 racing star Michael Schumacher.
And for the second time in as many weeks, the news is not encouraging.
Former teammate Johnny Herbert spoke recently with Grosvenor Sport, according to The Sun.
“There’s never any news. What we do know is we never hear any positive news,” Herbert said. “That’s the horrible thought that he is still not able to be close to the Michael that we all remember. And that is very sad.”
Schumacher was critically injured in a December 2013 skiing accident in the French Alps, hitting his head on a rock and suffering severe brain damage.
Schumacher, who was wearing a helmet while skiing with his son Mick, was placed in a medically-induced coma for 250 days.
Schumacher returned home to Switzerland after that, but updates on his condition have been extremely rare as those close to him have prioritized his privacy.
Last week, close friend Roger Benoit gave an update on Schumacher’s condition and gave this chilling statement, according to the Daily Mail: “This sentence says everything about how (Michael) has been doing for over 3,500 days. A case without hope.”
Schumacher’s wife Corinna broke her silence and spoke about the accident for the first time in eight years for a Netflix documentary.
“Michael is here,” Corinna said in 2021. “Different, but he’s here, and that gives us strength, I find.
“We’re together. We live together at home. We do therapy. We do everything we can to make Michael better and to make sure he’s comfortable. And to simply make him feel our family, our bond. And no matter what, I will do everything I can. We all will.”
Now 54, Michael Schumacher hasn’t been seen in public in a decade.
Schumacher was an F1 racing legend, winning the Drivers’ World Championships seven times, which is tied with Lewis Hamilton for the most titles all-time.
Schumacher’s 91 career Grand Prix wins are second to Hamilton’s 103 victories.
