A communication coach is breaking down one of Queen Elizabeth’s famed speeches in Netflix’s “Harry & Meghan” docuseries.
More bombshells continue to drop after the release of the show’s first three episodes.
Recently, voice expert Susie Ashfield claimed on TikTok that Netflix edited words out of the Elizabeth’s 21st birthday speech “to change the meaning of the statement entirely.”
The TikTok, which was posted Tuesday and has gained 760,000 views, claims that the line in her speech where Queen Elizabeth declares that her “whole life whether it be long or short shall be devoted to your service and to the service of our great imperial family to which we all belong” is altered.
TikToker and communication coach Susie Ashfield said that change, present in the series’ third episode, edited the speech to be heard as “I declare before you all that my whole life whether it be long or short shall be devoted to the service of our great imperial family to which we all belong.”
Ashfield, who is a staunch fan of the royal family, said that a friend brought the edited speech to her attention.
“I wasn’t going to say anything about the ‘Harry & Meghan’ Netflix documentary because it’s nothing to do with me,” she explained. “I’m a communications coach. I help people make speeches.”
“But I really like speeches, which is why when somebody told me about some potential editing that might have happened on the queen’s 21st birthday speech. I had to check it out,” she continued.
She then played the original and Netflix versions of the speech and asked if users could hear the difference.
“Did you hear the difference? And did you notice how just removing a few words changes the meaning of the statement entirely?” inquired Ashfield.
“I don’t know what the lesson to learn is here, but I suppose if you are going to be speaking and it will be recorded there is a chance you will get misquoted, your words might get taken out of context or in this case some part might be removed to change the meaning of the statement itself.”
Commenters were quick to condemn Netflix.
“Christ it feels like the whole Netflix series is going to be dishonest,” slammed one user.
“People think the mockery of the courtesy is the worst disrespect of the late queen, but this manipulation of her words truly is the worst,” said another.
“I thought I was [imagining] it. I’ve heard her speech many times and I was almost sure it wasn’t the same,” a third person chimed in.
The final three episodes of the docuseries are to be released on Dec. 15, 2022.
