The cinematic world of George R.R. Martin’s “Game of Thrones” series could be expanding.
HBO is reportedly in talks to develop a prequel about Aegon I Targaryen’s Westeros takeover, Variety reported on Monday.
The project is still in its very early stages, according to the report, and no screenwriter is attached yet.
HBO and Warner Bros. are considering beginning with a movie that would then progress into a TV series, Variety reported.
The Post has reached out to HBO for comment.
The prequel reportedly will center on how Aegon and his sisters/wives, Visenya and Rhaenys, conquered Westeros and made him the first Targaryen king — events that take place about 300 years before “Game of Thrones.”
“House of the Dragon” follows the Targaryen dynasty 200 years prior to the “GoT” timeline, during a civil war as King Aegon II ascends to the throne.
The series premiered in August 2022 and is currently in production for Season 2.
Kit Harington, who portrayed Jon Snow on “GoT” from 2011 until 2019, revealed last year he’s a big fan of the prequel TV show.
“I’m really enjoying it,” the “Eternals” star, 36, told the Hollywood Reporter at the time. “My friend Miguel [Sapochnik] showruns it, so I’m really enjoying it.”
He also applauded the project for its individuality and connection to the original series.
“It’s a weird one to start a whole new show in the same kind of realm and to make it its own thing,” Harrington added. “And I think that they’ve really done that.”
While Sapochnik exited as showrunner for Season 2 of “House of the Dragon,” he will stay on as an executive producer.
“Working within the ‘Thrones’ universe for the past few years has been an honor and a privilege, especially spending the last two with the amazing cast and crew of ‘House of the Dragon,’” Sapochnik said in a statement last August.
“I am so proud of what we accomplished with Season 1 and overjoyed by the enthusiastic reaction of our viewers.”
