A Florida woman was left stunned after ordering a COVID-19 antigen test from Instacart — only for the company to deliver a colon-disease test to her instead.
Donna Se took to TikTok recently to share her video, which has racked up more than 800,000 views in a matter of days.
Se explained that she ordered the at-home COVID test from Instacart — a grocery delivery service that drops food and pharmaceuticals at customers’ doors.
The company offers a substitution option, meaning that if an item is unavailable an employee will replace it with a close match.
This occurred in Se’s case, with an employee giving her a colon-disease test kit because the COVID-19 tests were out of stock.
“Thank you Instacart for your delivery and swap for a similar item,” Se sarcastically captioned her TikTok clip.
The Floridian was heard sobbing as she held up a freshly delivered packet of five EZ+Detect Colon Disease Test pads.
It’s unclear from the audio whether she was crying with laughter, or whether she was genuinely upset by the bizarre substitution choice.
Se’s clip certainly amused viewers, with many taking to the comments section.
“But how?!” one person wrote, accompanied by a series of crying-with-laughter emojis. “How does a person not know these are not the same?!”
“Wait… but what if this is the plot twist that saves your life?” another follower humorously chimed in, urging Se to make use of the colon disease test kit.
Several others left comments claiming they had received pregnancy tests as substitutions after ordering COVID at-home antigen tests from various online businesses.
One Instacart employee also responded to the video, stating: “As someone who does in store shopping for Instacart we are literally pushed to find replacements.”
The Post has reached out to the company for comment.
Se updated her video, explaining that she received a full refund from Instacart for the botched substitution.
At-home COVID tests have become a hot commodity in recent weeks, as the Omicron variant spreads rapidly across the country.
Many online stores have sold out of the kits, with some residents eager to fork out a fortune for the tests.
Late last month, CVS and Walgreens limited the number of antigen tests customers were allowed to purchase in a tactic to ease demand.
