The criminal trial for US actor Jussie Smollett is set to commence on Monday, local time, after an almost three year delay.
Mr Smollett is charge with six counts of felony disorderly conduct for allegedly staging a hate crime in January 2019.
He claimed two men assaulted him while he was walking home after buying a Subway sandwich in the early hours of January 29th.
The former Hollywood star alleged the men tied a noose around his neck and yelled racist, homophobic and pro-Trump rhetoric at him.
However, police said the actor’s story didn’t add up and the former ‘Empire’ star was eventually charged with a criminal offence.
