Lions safety Jalen Elliott paid tribute Sunday to the late Tate Myre, one of the four students killed in Tuesday’s deadly school shooting at Oxford High School in Michigan.

Elliott, who was signed to the Lions’ active roster last month, wore his No. 42 jersey with Myre’s name as he entered Ford Field before the game against the Vikings. Myre also wore No. 42 on Oxford’s football team.

Myre was killed as he reportedly attempted to disarm the accused shooter, 15-year-old Ethan Crumbley, in Tuesday’s rampage. Myre was just 16 years old.

In addition to Myre, Madisyn Baldwin, 17, Hana St. Juliana, 14, and Justin Shilling, 17, were also lost in the tragedy.

As of Sunday, nearly 250,000 individuals have signed a Change.org online petition to rename the school’s stadium in Myre’s honor.

“Tate is not just a hero to his fellow students at Oxford high school but a legend, his act of bravery should be remembered forever and passed down through generations,” a message reads on the petition’s page.

Before Elliott’s tribute Sunday, the University of Michigan football team also honored Myre on Saturday night, with the Wolverines wearing a patch on their right shoulders for the Big Ten title game. The patch was shaped like the Oxford “O,” according to Sporting News, and also featured Myre’s initials and uniform number.

Michigan also defeated Iowa, 42-3.

“It was 42 points when we all looked up there,” coach Jim Harbaugh said. “Describe that.”

Myre’s family and coaches also served as honorary captains for Saturday’s game.

On Sunday, the Lions and Vikings will both have “O” decals for Oxford on their helmets.
