Russia: The UN secretary-general, António Guterres, will visit foreign minister Sergei Lavrov in Moscow and will be received by president Vladimir Putin. Talks will focus on the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and Guterres is expected to later visit Kyiv.

Economic news: The UK’s Office for National Statistics will release Public Sector Finances, including details on net borrowing and net debt.

Associated British Foods: The retailer of food, agriculture and clothing will publish a first quarter trading update. In December, AB Foods said recent trading at Primark beat expectations. “We are managing disruption in our supply chain by prioritising products most in demand with the support of our logistics providers for whom we are a very important customer,” said Michael McLintock, AB Foods’ chair.

Taylor Wimpey: The UK housebuilder publishes a trading update on Tuesday. Taylor Wimpey became the first big UK housebuilder to appoint a female chief executive in February, hiring an existing board member, Jennie Daly, and thwarting efforts by activist investor Elliott Management to bring in an external candidate.

Results: UBS, Iveco, Novartis and Kuehne & Nagel also publish results.

Markets: Futures for the Euro Stoxx 50 and the FTSE 100 were up 1.7 per cent and 1.2 per cent, respectively. In Asia on Tuesday, a pledge from China’s central bank halted a slide in the country’s equities, with the CSI 300 up as much as 1.5 per cent after steep losses the day before. US stocks also rebounded on Monday afternoon, with the S&P 500 up 0.6 per cent at the close, and the Nasdaq Composite finishing 1.3 per cent higher.
