Grading the Jets’ 20-12 loss to the Bills on Sunday.

Offense

The Jets had just two extended drives and only one that ended in a touchdown. There were some nice, individual highlights. but the offense never really got rolling. QB Mike White (27 of 44, 268 yards, 78.6 rating) was under siege all day. White made some pretty throws, when he wasn’t picking himself up off the turf, particularly on third down. He was sacked three times and hit hard numerous other times as the offensive line looked overmatched. RB Zonovan Knight (17 rushes, 71 yards, 1 TD) had another strong game. RB Michael Carter (5 rushes, 5 yards) had a huge fumble in the fourth quarter that cost the Jets a chance at a touchdown.

Defense

The Bills’ offense looked frustrated and out of sync for most of the day, but able to make just enough plays to put together two critical touchdown drives. LB C.J. Mosley had a costly encroachment penalty on fourth-and-1 before halftime, keeping a Bills TD drive alive, as he leapt over the center to try to time a big hit. CB Michael Carter II had two penalties. DT Quinnen Williams had two sacks before exiting the game with a calf injury. The Jets had sticky coverage on Bills WR Stefon Diggs (3 catches, 37 yards), and QB Josh Allen (16 of 27, 147 yards, 1 TD, 10 rushes, 47 yards, 1 rushing TD) looked frustrated for most of the day.

Grade: B

Special Teams

Jermaine Johnson made a big play with a blocked punt in the fourth quarter that went out of the end zone for a safety. It was a potentially huge momentum swing, but the offense could not take advantage of it. Greg Zuerlein made his only field-goal attempt. It was a punt-fest in the first half and Braden Mann averaged 44.4 yards on seven punts in the game, placing two inside the 20.

Grade: A-

Coaching

There were no glaring coaching mistakes or great coaching decisions in this one. Yes, Robert Saleh could have gone for it on fourth-and-1 late in the game instead of kicking the field goal to cut it to an eight-point game, but his logic was sound. Mike LaFleur needed to find a way to take some of the pressure off of White, who was getting drilled seemingly every time he dropped back. Jeff Ulbirch had a good plan for Allen and the Jets had him confused in the first half.
