A US woman was snapped smiling widely in her police mug shot after allegedly using a sword to violently stab her boyfriend to death.

A Missouri woman was captured grinning ear to ear in her mug shot after allegedly stabbing her boyfriend to death with a sword, according to police and reports.

Local cops were sent to Brittany Wilson’s home late Friday over a report of “suspicious activity” and discovered her beau dead, Cape Girardeau Police Department said Saturday in a statement, according to the New York Post.

Ms Wilson’s live-in partner, identified in local reports as 34-year-old Harrison Stephen Foster, was found just after 11pm in their basement with “fresh stab wounds” on his body, police said.

Ms Wilson had called 911 and admitted to killing her boyfriend with a sword, which officers found on the couple’s lawn, according to CBS affiliate KFVS-12,

Ms Wilson, 32, was arrested at the Barberry Street home, taken to the Cape Girardeau municipal jail, and charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action, police said. Her bond was set for $2 million cash, the department said.

In the mug shot released on Saturday by police, an orange jumpsuit-clad Ms Wilson wore a wide smile.

Ms Wilson had confessed to authorities that she and Mr Foster both took methamphetamines earlier on Friday, according to the CBS station and NBC affiliate WFLA-18, citing officers and police.

Ms Wilson claimed that Mr Foster had “several other entities living inside his body for the past several months” and so by fatally stabbing him, she was “setting him free,” the NBC station said, citing police.
