One golf fan got the experience of a lifetime unexpectedly on Sunday during the Canadian Open.

Paul Emerson – a random spectator at the event – caddied for C.T. Pan for two holes after his regular caddie was hurt on the third hole at Hamilton Golf & Country Club when the caddie slipped down a hill.

It was when Pan was walking his caddie, Mike “Fluff” Cowan, to a medic on the side of the fairway that Emmerson approached the golfer to see if he could help, PGATour.com reported.

A clip posted by the Tour showed Emerson with the caddie’s bib in his hand and walking up the fairway.

Emmerson was wearing a read Masters shirt and blue cap and threw the bib on before going over to shake the hand of another caddie.

“I helped Fluff get the bib off, threw it on and started walking up the hole,” Emerson told PGATour.com.

Emmerson helped caddie for Pan through the fifth hole before Michael Campbell, a member of the caddie services team, took over the duties.

Al Riddell, Paul Barjon’s caddie, stepped in to help Pan finish the round on the 10th hole.

Emmerson hails from Aurora, Ontario and had caddied for a friend in a pro-am at the LPGA’s CPKC Women’s Open and in his conversation with Pan, according to the outlet, Emmerson said he would talk as little or as much as the golfer wanted.

“Heart was pumping a little bit. I’m a golf nut,” Emerson told Sportsnet in Canada. “Walked up and was shaking hands with Shane Lowry and his caddie, just like, ‘Hey how are you?’ And that hole went pretty quickly. Got up on the next tee and we had a little time to wait [but] had my phone going off.

“I joked around about how I was hoping to have a nice view on the fourth hole.”

Pan shot a 1-under 69 on Sunday and finished tied for 36th.
