Rebel Wilson has opinions.

The “Pitch Perfect” star, 44, said in a new interview that she doesn’t think sexuality should come into play when actors are being cast in roles.

“I’ve definitely said a lot of edgy jokes, and said them sometimes in very public places like the BAFTAS,” Wilson said on BBC Radio 4’s “Desert Island Discs” on Sunday.

“I don’t think there’s a different standard, it’s more this thing about – if you are something then now you’re allowed to joke about it. But if you’re not [you can’t]. That’s kind of what’s currently happening. So it’s not really gendered.”

Wilson continued: “I think that’s hard. It’s going into this territory of like saying, ‘Well, only straight actors can play straight roles and gay actors can play gay roles’, which I think is total nonsense.”

The actress, who came out in June 2022, added: “I think you should be able to play any role that you want. But I always think, in comedy, your job is to always flirt with that line of what’s acceptable.”

“Sometimes you do step over it, but at the end of the day, you are trying to entertain people,” Wilson said. “If people are just always being safe and protective, you’re not going to get good comedy from that.”

Other gay actors have similarly weighed in on the topic of acting jobs being determined by sexuality.

Andrew Scott told Screen Daily last year that he thinks “transformation” is just as important as representation in Hollywood.

“I don’t love the idea of being cast for something purely for my own sexuality,” the “All Of Us Strangers” star said. “You’re not just playing ‘gay’, you’re playing the attributes of the character. I don’t want a totalitarian regime — we have to look at each individual story we’re telling and what’s right for that.”

Wilson was 42 when she revealed her sexuality to the world by posing a photo with her then-girlfriend, Ramona Agruma.

The couple welcomed their first child, daughter Royce Lillian, via surrogate in November 2022 and Wilson proposed in February 2023.

The “Bridesmaids” star revealed during her BBC Radio 4 interview that her family accepted her when she came out.

“I’m lucky in my case, even though I come from a very conservative background, it went very, very well,” she shared.

“My grandparents, who are in their 90s, just so chilled and cool with it.”

However, the same couldn’t be said for Agruma’s family.

“Her mum has luckily come around now. Her father still doesn’t talk to her, but we’re hoping that will change,” Wilson said.

Wilson has been doing press for her new memoir “Rebel Rising,” which was released in April.

In her autobiography, Wilson revealed that she was a virgin until 35.

“People can wait till they’re ready or wait till they’re a bit more mature,” she wrote in her book, per People. “And I think that could be a positive message. You obviously don’t have to wait until you’re in your 30s like me, but you shouldn’t feel pressure as a young person.”

The Australian native also said she was “embarrassed” talking about sex as a teenager and even lied about having sex for the first time in her 20s.
