Kimberly Van Gundy, the wife of NBA broadcaster Stan Van Gundy, died unexpectedly last week.
She was 61 years old.
“Kimberly’s kindness and love for all around her was shown through her charitable works and activism,” her obituary said.
“In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando or Crossroad’s Corral in Kim’s memory.”
The cause of death was not announced.
In addition to Stan, her husband of 25 years, Kimberly is survived by the couple’s four children, Shannon, Michael, Alison, and Kelly, her parents Jane Dennan and Ernest Abbott, four siblings and 13 nieces and nephews.
“I lost my big sister Kimberly Abbott Van Gundy on Wednesday. She was one of my favorite people and I will forever miss her. Rest in peace, Kim,” Kimberly’s sister Catherine said in a statement last week, according to TMZ.
Kimberly studied undergrad at Castleton State College, later meeting Stan at the college in 1984, a year after he had become head basketball coach there.
They got married in 1988.
Kimberly later earned her Master of Education in Counseling at Fordham University.
Stan Van Gundy is an NBA color commentator for TNT and was previously the head coach of the Pelicans, Pistons, Magic and Heat.
