The Warriors’ struggles almost had Steve Kerr sleeping on the couch.
Kerr had a tough night of sleep after the Warriors blew a 24-point lead to the Kings on Tuesday night, falling 124-123 in Sacramento on Malik Monk’s late game-winner.
His wife, Margot, had one message: Save that drama for the playoffs.
“I’ll tell you what happened; I got home from Sacramento, I’m up for a while, I’m thinking about everything, I get into bed, and [I’m] tossing and turning,” Kerr told KNBR.
“It’s probably two o’clock in the morning, and Margot wakes up and goes, ‘Jesus, it’s only November. Would you just relax?’ And I’m like, ‘What are you talking about?’ And she goes, ‘All I can hear are these heavy sighs, tossing and turning, just go to sleep.’”
Despite it still being early for the perennial contenders, there are reasons for Kerr to be tossing and turning.
The Warriors have won three of 11 games since starting the season 6-2, and there are concerns beyond wins and losses.
Draymond Green was dealt a five-game suspension for choking Rudy Gobert during a Warriors-Timberwolves scuffle.
Green returned for that loss to the Kings — and received a technical foul that spurred a run by Sacramento.
“[It’s] disappointing because Draymond, he drives a lot of our results,” Kerr told 95.7 The Game in a separate interview on Wednesday.
“He’s a very powerful figure and he knows that and he and I have talked about that. But he has to harness that power. I was disappointed last night that he got that tech, reaction to the foul afterward because the momentum really swung in Sacramento’s favor after that. So, he’s got to be better and he knows that.”
An ESPN.com report also described some frustration by Warriors officials who believed Andrew Wiggins was out of shape after missing a portion of last season due to his father’s health issues.
Wiggins then slammed his finger in a car door and missed Thursday night’s 130-126 win over the Clippers.
Klay Thompson was asked Tuesday about the patience Kerr had shown with some of his key players and the sharpshooter did not appreciate the aim of the question.
“You want them to bench me? You want to bench [Andrew Wiggins]? You want to bench us?” Thompson angrily responded. “Okay. I mean, you can suggest it. It’s fine … I don’t know.”
At least Kerr has an unbothered Steph Curry to help him sleep.
