Terrell Owens is claiming self-defense.

Over the weekend, video emerged of Owens punching and knocking down a heckler outside of a CVS in California. Police were called to the scene. Owens has now explained his side of the story.

Owens told the Associated Press in a statement that he was fighting an “aggressor” who “made offensive gestures and threatening statements” at him and a fan whom Owens was speaking with at the CVS.

Owens told the outlet that the man followed them outside.

“The aggressor continued threatening the fan just as he did in the store,” Owens said. “Once again, attempting to defuse the ongoing situation, I placed myself between the fan and the aggressor. I made verbal demands asking the aggressor to stop his threatening behavior.”

Owens, 48, is a Pro Football Hall of Famer who played wide receiver for the 49ers, Eagles, Cowboys, Bills and Bengals.

Terrell Owens easily handled the heckler and left the scene in his car.

He reiterated that he acted in self-defense in the CVS incident.

“Like anyone else, I was making a stop at CVS and was blindsided by all of this,” Owens continued. “Unfortunately, I had to act using self-defense to end a threat towards myself and the fan. I will attempt to make positive from this negative experience.”
