Hero, zero and full blitz from the Giants’ 14-9 loss to the Bills on Sunday.
Hero
This was definitely not Josh Allen’s finest hour. He threw an interception and passed for only 169 yards. But when the Bills needed him to deliver, Allen made some big-time throws that very few quarterbacks can make and that made the difference. It is hard to keep such a talented player down for 60 minutes.
Zero
Tyrod Taylor was no zero, as he gamely moved in as the starter and competed at a high level. The zero belongs to the decision he made on the final play of the first half, changing the play from a pass to a run, which doomed the Giants when the run at the 1-yard line came up short and the clock expired.
Unsung Hero
Justin Pugh could not remember when he last played left tackle in an NFL game. Maybe eight years ago? He did not take reps at that position this week but there he was, at left tackle, after Josh Ezeudu was injured in the first quarter. It was the first game action for Pugh in one year, since he tore his ACL while playing for the Cardinals, and he played every snap in his 2023 debut.
Key Stat
52.6%: The Giants converted 10 of 19 of their third-down conversions, which allowed them to total 31:24 in time of possession. That was a good thing for them. The bad news was the Bills converted 50 percent of their third downs on offense.
