Seeing the deep cut that forced Tyson Fury to postpone his undisputed heavyweight championship bout with Oleksandr Usyk left his wife, Paris’ full body “shaking.”

Paris Fury made the revelation in her Instagram stories after the news broke on Friday and a picture was released of the deep gash over Fury’s right eye that he suffered during a sparing session for the bout originally scheduled for Feb. 17 in Saudi Arabia.

“My full body was shaking with nerves when he showed me the cut, cus I wasn’t there with him [sic],” Paris Fury wrote. “He sounded so pissed off and disappointed but this is boxing (a very dangerous sport) and these things can happen.”

Paris and Tyson, who met when they were 17, have been married since 2008 and share seven children.

The cut required urgent medical attention and significant stitching and will need recovery time, Fury’s representation at Queensberry Promotion said in an Instagram post announcing the bout’s postponement.

The “freak accident” occurred during a sparring session with Croatian fighter Agron Smakici, according to Sky Sports.

Video footage of when the cut is believed to have occurred during sparring leaked and was posted by TalkSPORT.

The 35-year-old Fury (34-0-1, 24 KOs) is the undefeated WBC heavyweight champion and the bout – which was set to place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia — was going to create the first undisputed heavyweight champion since 1999 as Usyk (21-0, 14 KOs) is the owner of the IBF, WBA and WBO belts.

“I am absolutely devastated after preparing for this fight for so long and being in such superb condition,” Fury said in a statement. “I feel bad for everyone involved in this huge event and I will work diligently towards the rescheduled date once the eye has healed. I can only apologize to everyone affected, including my own team, Team Usyk, the undercard fighters, partners and fans, as well as our hosts and my friends in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.”

As the two sides look to potentially reschedule the bout, the 37-year-old Usyk will need to fulfill an obligation to defend his IBF belt.

Usyk’s team wasn’t exactly gracious to Fury after the injury announcement as promotor Alexander Krassyuk wished the fighter a “soonest recovery” but also called the cut a sign God sent to “think of retirement” in a comment on Fury’s Instagram post, according to the Daily Mail.

Usyk’s manager Egis Klimas wasn’t as subtle.

“Fury is a f–king coward who will do anything not to face Usyk, and he asked his bitch to hit him with a frying pan in his brow,” Klimas told Ring Magazine. “You can quote me word for word for that.”
