After a year colored by the continuation of the pandemic, crazy weather events across the country, the split of Kim-ye and so much more, we are now ready to move on to bigger and brighter things in 2022.
Behold the just-announced official Pantone Color of the Year for 2022: Very Peri (Pantone 17-3938). Revealed on Wednesday, the stunning periwinkle purple shade with red undertones visually “speaks” to what the year ahead will hopefully have in store.
“Blending the faithfulness and constancy of blue with the energy and excitement of red, this happiest and warmest of all the blue hues introduces an empowering mix of newness,” Pantone hyped in a statement received by The Post.
“Rekindling gratitude for some of the qualities that blue represents complemented by a new perspective that resonates today, Pantone 17-3938 Very Peri places the future ahead in a new light.”
This year also marks a first for the Pantone Color of the Year, as it is the very first time that they have created a brand new color to be honored.
“Creating a new color for the first time in the history of our Pantone Color of the Year educational color program reflects the global innovation and transformation taking place,” said Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute. “As society continues to recognize color as a critical form of communication and as a way to express and affect ideas and emotions and engage and connect, the complexity of this new red-violet-infused blue hue highlights the expansive possibilities that lie before us.”
Last year also marked a first (well, since 2016) as the folks at Pantone were split over which color to choose and ended up picking two — Illuminating (Pantone 13-0647) and Ultimate Gray (Pantone 17-5104) which are a light yellow and light gray, respectively.
But now it’s time for the gray storm clouds to pass and the butter-yellow sun to brighten, making way for the bright purple color to take hold and inspire us into the new year.

This time, the Very Peri shade will be used for an all-over periwinkle low-top sneaker as well as on a white sneaker as an accent color to make the kicks really pop.
