What all of the zodiac signs can expect

Cue Stevie Nicks’ “Blue Water,” star children. Neptune — the planet of dreams, inspiration, intuition and psychic vibes — is turning direct on Dec. 1.

If Neptune were a fictional character, it would be Luna Lovegood from “Harry Potter.” It’s vague, it speaks in metaphors, it wears pajamas to lunch, prefers third-eye hugs and feels at home in an aquarium or opium den. The placement of Neptune in the birth chart reveals the areas of our life where our belief systems are the most fluid and where we may have trouble seeing situations, or ourselves within them, clearly.

Unlike Venus, Mercury and Mars, Neptune is a slow-moving outer planet that takes approximately 164 years to move through all 12 zodiac signs. Neptune moved into its domicile in the sweet, escapist leaning, sound bath-loving water sign of Pisces in 2011, where it will remain until 2026.

Since June 25, Neptune has been stationed in retrograde. In astrology, a retrograde occurs when a planet appears to be moving backwards in the sky, an optical illusion caused by the velocity of the earth’s rotation and our vantage point. While a planet may not literally be back-pedaling, the change in speed corresponds to changes in the area of our lives that the planet governs.

Neptune’s latest retrograde forced us to confront illusions, step gingerly over our potholes of self-deception and lift the veil and cut ties between ourselves and any unhealthy relationship dynamics. Because Neptune is the planet of compassion, we may have developed a deeper capacity for tenderness during this retrograde and also a more discerning view of who to deliver that tenderness to.

Now that we’ve done the work of a good, hard look, the time is nigh to turn our dreams and discoveries into purposeful drive and close out this fraught year with clarity and an eye toward what an ideal future looks like for ourselves and the human collective.

Read on to learn more about how Neptune’s direct turn will affect each sign.

Aries (March 21 – April 19)

Your greatest misconceptions are related to your own self worth Aries. You have the power to give yourself the kind of nurturing and ultimately the kind of life you were denied as a child. You only have to accept that you deserve it.

Taurus (April 20 – May 20)

Neptune retrograde asked you to prioritize the way you see yourself over the way you hope to appear or fear you will seem to others. Why be your greatest critic when you have equal capacity to act as your own hype man, Taurus? See yourself wholly, treat yourself kindly and applaud yourself accordingly.

Gemini (May 21 – June 20)

Neptune retrograde asked you to question the lengths you are willing to go to meet the needs of your social circle and whether that span is actually the space between you and yourself. As the planet of compassion goes direct, may I advise Gemini, that you go within.

Cancer (June 21 – July 22)

Neptune rules imagination and this retrograde may have given rise to your own anxious musings, Cancer. You have a tendency to envision the worst possible outcome and view yourself as the victim of it. But now, with the gift of clarity and idealism, I hope you tell yourself a different story, and write in a happy ending in all capital letters.

Leo (July 23 – August 22)

You don’t have a problem receiving Leo, but this retrograde may have illustrated where and when you fail to reciprocate. Now that dreamscape Neptune is direct, imagine all of the ways to repay kindness with kindness and express gratitude through generosity.

Virgo (August 23 – September 22)

You’re the caretaking workhorse of the zodiac Virgo but sometimes you fail to look up from the task at hand to appreciate the beauty that abounds and the forest through the trees. Your assignment now that Neptune has gone direct is to prioritize daydreaming, flower sniffing, pine cone collecting and the pure pursuit of bliss, baby.

Libra (September 23 – October 22)

Your best feature and fatal flaw is people pleasing, Libra. I trust this retrograde has shown you that you have been bending knees and kissing rings where fealty is undeserved. Now that the truth has been revealed, your task is to serve only those that serve the greater good.

Scorpio (October 23 – November 21)

The waters of your finances and the crystal ball of your future have been awfully murky as of late, Scorpio. The lesson in all of that uncertainty is that you have the power and the responsibility to make your life, now and later, in whatever image you see fit. It hasn’t been clear because it’s waiting to be conjured.

Sagittarius (November 22 – December 21)

You’ve been spending more time spinning your wheels than blazing trails, Sagittarius but not for long. This retrograde has hopefully shown you that the difference between movement and momentum is intention.

Capricorn (December 22 – January 19)

Letting go for you is akin to Charleton Heston loosening the death grip on his guns. It ain’t easy, Capricorn. Yet, if you allow someone to help or invite them to collaborate, you offer yourself the rare and precious opportunity to be surprised and gasp, even delighted by the efficacy of others.

Aquarius (January 20 – February 18)

You can really rally behind a cause and elevate an everyman to the station of hero, Aquarius, but sometimes your fervor overshadows your reason. Make sure to investigate thoroughly before committing fully. As the progressive spirit of the zodiac, we need you to shine a sure light for the rest of us to follow.

Pisces (February 19 – March 20)

Because Neptune is your ruling planet you have felt the effects of this retrograde more acutely than others. Good news is on the way Pisces. I hope you spent the summer and fall hogtying your fears and stonewalling your self-doubt because you are poised, now more than ever, to make good on your oceanic stores of potential.
