The Women’s Tennis Association has announced it’s suspending all tournaments in China due to growing concerns for the welfare of player Peng Shuai.
The athlete disappeared from public view for three weeks after accusing a top Chinese official of sexual assault.
WTA Chairman Steve Simon released a statement saying he could not in “good conscience” ask players to compete in the country.
“Unfortunately, the leadership in China has not addressed this very serious issue in any credible way,” the statement said.
