Diego Castillo didn’t fit in the Mets’ roster plans, but the Yankees have a spot for him.
The 26-year-old infielder/outfielder was claimed off waivers by the Yankees on Friday, after the Mets designated him for assignment to clear space on the 40-man roster for Sean Manaea.
Castillo had been claimed off waivers from the Diamondbacks earlier in the month.
Castillo appeared in only one game last season for the D’backs.
He played 96 games for the Pirates in 2022, when he posted a .206/.251/.382 slash line with 11 homers and 29 RBIs.
To make room on the 40-man roster, the Yankees designated infielder Jeter Downs for assignment.
