Reports of Bob Trainor’s demise have been greatly exaggerated.

Over the weekend, many figures in the New York sports media paid tribute to Bob Trainor, a longtime fixture in locker rooms who was said to have passed away.

The news even reached YES Network, where Michael Kay delivered a eulogy for the longtime New York sports scenester during the Yankees-Rays game on Sunday.

“Sad news, if you’ve ever been around a major league ballpark or any sporting events in New York — football, basketball, hockey — you saw Bob Trainor there,” Kay said. “Forty-year fixture in all of the clubhouses. Our condolences go out to Bob’s family and friends. He was really part of the fabric of New York sports. He collected sound. The voices you heard on the radio, that could be the sound that Bob Trainor picked up. He passed away, and again our condolences go out to his family and friends.”

However, Trainor is still alive.

Mike Mancuso, a reporter for WFAN and CBS Sports Radio who had been among the first to tweet about Trainor’s supposed death, spoke to the man during the holiday weekend.

False rumors spread over the weekend that Bob Trainor, a fixture in the NY sports media scene, had died.

“Friends, something didn’t feel right about the various reports of Bob’s passing, so I reached out and BOB called me this morning,” Mancuso tweeted. “HAPPY to say he’s alive and doing well. Bob is thankful for all the kind words. My sincere apologies for responding to reports without confirmation.”
